In recognition of this achievement, the University Research and Innovation Committee (UR&IC), under the leadership of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Lynn Morris, has awarded Karuri-Sebina a once-off grant of R50 000 through the University’s Vitamin C Programme. This initiative was established to support newly C-rated academics in advancing their research agendas and postgraduate supervision.

The funding supports research-related costs, including the development of postgraduate students. It stands as a token of appreciation for Karuri-Sebina’s dedication to research excellence and her ongoing contributions to the intellectual life of the University.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the NRF rating and the University’s support. It is encouraging to transdisciplinary, scholar-practitioners like me when the value of engaged scholarship and the importance of research that speaks to the challenges and opportunities of our time is affirmed.

“I am sincerely grateful to my colleagues, collaborators, and students who continue to inspire and shape my academic journey. I look forward to using this support to further strengthen our research community and contribute meaningfully to transformative governance and innovation in South Africa,” said Karuri-Sebina.

Karuri-Sebina’s work spans the fields of governance, anticipation, and innovation, grounded in her interest in the intersections between people, place, time and technological change.
