Public Leadership and Governance: New course introduced by WSG
The Wits School of Governance Executive Education has introduced a new executive course, Public Leadership and Governance, that also serves as a bridging course into our academic programmes.
This innovative course aims to empower individuals from various sectors, including public servants, non-governmental sector employees, and private sector professionals.
It focuses on imparting essential technical, analytical, and functional skills required for current management responsibilities while paving the way for further academic pursuits at our School. Successful completion of the course with an average of 65% or above opens doors for participants to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma Management programme.
According to the Acting Director of Executive Education, Raesetsa Hopane, this initiative was born out of a pressing need, identified among students aspiring to apply for our academic programmes but falling short of meeting the minimum requirements.
“With this new offering we wanted to create an opportunity to lay the foundation for our rigorous academic programmes at the Wits School of Governance.
“Our students bring plenty of experience to our classrooms in the number of executive courses we offer but sometime lack more technical and analytical skills needed to successfully complete our academic programmes,” explained Hopane.
Public Leadership Topics
Comprising nine modules, the course covers a diverse range of relevant topics, including Economics, Public Finance, Governance and Development, Ethics, Public Policy, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
The requirements for applications are an NQF 6 or equivalent qualification and a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
"We eagerly anticipate welcoming our inaugural cohort of students for the Public Leadership and Governance course this year. Our Executive courses attract individuals passionate about development and dedicated to enhancing state capacity through continuous learning," said Hopane.
