Leading with values: Wits Governance Head of School earns national recognition
Professor Themba Maseko, Head of the Wits School of Governance, was recently named runner-up in the Governance Public Sector Leadership category at the 2025 Future of Leadership Awards. Now in its third year, the awards celebrate leaders who are not only effective, but transformational—those who lead with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to lifting others.
The awards, hosted by the Future of Leadership community, recognise individuals across sectors who are shaping a better future. This year’s finalists were praised for their courage in driving systemic change and for championing inclusive, values-based leadership.
Professor Maseko, a respected voice in South Africa’s public sector and higher education landscape, was honoured for his ongoing contribution to public service through education. Under his leadership, the Wits School of Governance has deepened its focus on building ethical, capable leadership across government and civil society.
"This recognition is not mine alone—it belongs to the entire team at Wits Governance, and to the students who inspire us daily," said Maseko. "My commitment to public service is rooted in the belief that postgraduate education is a powerful lever for transforming our institutions and our society."
His recognition underscores the Wits School of Governance’s growing influence in shaping thought leadership in the public sector, both in South Africa and across the continent.
