Biography

Professor Themba Maseko is the Acting Head of the Wits School of  Governance. He joined the School as the Director of Executive Education in January 2022 after serving as the Academic Champion for the Government Communications and Marketing short course.

He holds a BA LLB from Wits University, an MBA at De Montfort University and the Senior Executive Programme (SEP), a joint programme from Wits Business School and Harvard Universities.

He is the first Head of, and was responsible for setting up the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), former Managing Director of Damelin Education Group, Director General of the national departments of Public Works, Public Service and Administration, Government Spokesperson and CEO of the Government Communications and Information Services (GCIS), and Director General of the Department of Public Service and Administration.

Professor Maseko also served as the Communications Director at the Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA). He left the public service after 17 years when he became one of the public servants who spoke out against the capture of the South African State and became a witness at the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, also known as the Zondo Commission.

He is the author of the book, “For my country”: Why I blew the Whistle on Zuma and the Guptas. He was recently awarded for his courage and bravery at the Inaugural Whistleblower awards.

Professor Maseko is a Trustee of the Board of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and also serves on the Boards of Corruption Watch and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution.

 He is married with children.
